John Donaldson was born in September, 1870 in Missouri. In 1900, he had been married four years. His wife, Leona, was born in July, 1874, also in Missouri. Their eldest daughter was Fanchion D. Donaldson who was born in August, 1897. The family was still living in Moundville in 1910 and had another daughter, Anna, who was born in 1902. Leona was the daughter of Merrill and Hattie Terpening Landon. Leona attended Cooper College. John and Leona were married on October 8 1896. They operated the funeral home in Moundville for many years.

John and Leona are buried at Welborn Cemetery, northwest of Moundville. Their dates are: John W. Donaldson, 1870 - 1947 Leona M. Donaldson, 1873 - 1973
