Mische Family of Moundville

This family was in Moundville (Drywood Township) very early and were featured in the 1887 History of Vernon County. We hope to learn more about them.

From History of Vernon County, Missouri. 1887, p. 835.

HENRY MISCHE

(Farmer, Section 6, Post-office, Milo).

Mr. Mische comes of sturdy German parentage, and all through his career has manifested those sterling characteristics peculiar to that race of people. Indeed he himself is a German by birth, having been born in Germany, September 6, 1831. Henry Mische, his father, was a successful farmer, and his mother was Lettie Mische, of the same country. Among the children born to them was he whose name heads this sketch. Henry Mische was brought up at his old home to a farm experience, but when 18 years old he left the scenes of his boyhood days and early manhood and took passage for America, finally settling in Warren county, 0., where he lived until 1881. Then he took up his location in this county, and from that time to this has been steadily identified with the agricultural interests of the community. His nicely improved farm of 340 acres is well carried on and produces bountifully under his careful toil and management. In 1860 Mr. Mische was first married to Christiana Hassenyager, of Germany, who died in 1872, leaving the following children: Caroline, now Mrs. Kuhlmann; Ann, wife of Henry Kuhlmann; Alvina, Mena. and Henry. In 1873 Mr. K. married his present wife, Miss Mena Woltemeyer, and seven children have blessed this union: Amanda, Benjamin, Charlie, Matilda, August, Martin and Frank.

Steve Burrows, a great great grandson of Henry Mische shared this photo of the Henry Mische family. He identifies the folks as:

Fourth row (men): Martin, Ben, Henry, Charlie, August

Third Row (women): Tilda, Hulda, Minne, Winnie

Second row: Annie, Henry, Mina, Carrie

Bottom Row: Emma, David, Daniel, Amanda

The calling card from Annie Mische is from the Heinsohn family collection. Perhaps, this card was printed before Ann Mische became Mrs. Henry Kuhlman?

The Victorian decoration below the calling card is just an example of they type of things that were with the calling cards. Such items were common in the late 1800's.

Katarine Wilhelmine Amanda (Mische) DAHMER, and her husband, Sampson Matthew DAHMER. This is believed to be their wedding picture. They were married in Mar 1902. She was a daughter of Arend Heinrich Mische. By the way......Katarine Wilhelmine Amanda (Mische) DAHMER was Steve's great grandmother.

Steve also shared the scan to the left is of Katarine Wilhelmine Amanda (Mische) DAHMER, and 3 of her children (Malinda Mary, Clara Jane, & Ruth Mae). It was taken by their home, that was located south of Nevada, MO. Katarine Wilhelmine Amanda (Mische) Dahmer, was a daughter of Arend Heinrich (Henry) & Wilhemine (Woltemar) MISCHE.
