Thomas Irwin was the seventh son of Morton and Anna Crawford Irwin. He had a dry goods store in Fairfield, Indiana with his brother, Robert. Thomas married Anna Eliza Ogden.

Thomas Irwin lived in Fairfield most of the time, but also sometimes lived near Billingsville. He is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis.
