Nancy Jane Irwin was the fourth child of Morton Irwin and his second wife, Mary Jane Curtis. Her father died when she was only nine years old. At that point, Squire and Mary Irwin Frazee were appointed guardians. Mary was Nancy Jane's older half sister from Morton's first family.
Nancy Jane married Oscar Phenis in 1872 in Union County, Indiana. The 1900 Butler county census listed Jane with her family residing at 134 Garfield Avenue in Middletown. It included:

The Phenis web page provides and excellent and well documented outline of the Phenis family including Nancy Jane and Oscar and their desdendants. It tells that Oscar and Jane had five children, Anna Phenis, Kate Phenis (mother of Earl above), Albertus Phenis, William Phenis and Riley Phenis. It also tells that Jane died in Butler County, Ohio on April 5, 1918.
