Bronaugh Christian Church

The Bronaugh Christian Church was organized in 1895 during a tent meeting under Rev. Hoffman. The early church member met in the Methodist Church where they had preaching once a month. When the Baptist Church was built, the Christian Congregation met there. The new Christian Church building was dedicated on August 21, 1910 with Rev. Sarah Crank presiding. Charter members included Mrs. Altizer, Mrs. Twigg, Mrs. Butcher. Charles Altizer was the first Sunday School Superintendent.

In 1942, Prairie Divide School house was bought and moved from southeast of Bronaugh (now Bushwhacker Lake area). The school became the east end of the church providing classrooms and a dining hall.

Below is a wonderful photo of the Christian church during a revival. The photo is from the Ott Saathoff collection shared by Larry Maffett. The photo is undated and the people are not identified. However, I'm sure that Dicy Feller is standing second from right. That should allow us to come up with an approximate date.

Below is a nice scan shared by Deloris Sheridan Heitz. Many are identified below. Deloris believes that this photo was taken about 1935. Deloris says that this is the ladies quilting group. In 1935, they made a benefit quilt that she now has. Each of the ladies quilted a square and put their name on each square. Deloris recorded the names on the quilt and we should be able to use them to match the idenfications. Here are the names:
