Attitudes about Insane Asylums must have been quite different 100 years ago. A Lake Park Springs post card has the following message: "July 15, 1912 Nevada, Missouri Dear Mary, Am having a nice visit. Have been out to the Asylum all afternoon. Am going to the park tonight. Lizzie |
Sometimes a post card had a message that was supposed to be a joke (I suppose). For example: 1907 "Dear Old Woman, Heres where they have put your old man. Come to my aid. Yours, Zella" |

Thanks for an anonymous Springfield person who sent me the above real photo card. It just arrived in the mail one day with no name. The back of the card just identifies it as being of Patients at Number 3. |
